TPA 6178: Themed Experience Seminar
Design a place of worship or other religious environment that tells the story of a specific religion. The environment you design must be based upon the doctrine and canon of an actual religion. You can choose a currently practiced religion or one that is no longer observed. However, the environment you design may not be based upon the traditional or existing structures or iconography associated with the religion you choose.
Original project was completed in 2022. However, I revisited the project in 2024 with entirely new project deliverables and artwork posted below.
Catholic Church that engages with the environmental landscape and nature. Inspired by the desert landscapes of the West Coast, this Catholic Church is fully outdoors and reimagines design elements of California's Spanish missions. Open arched windows and entrances emulate the mountain landscapes and allow breeze and light to come in and out.
A prayer garden with reflective golden angel wings, inspired by St. Hildegard of Bingen, the Saint of the Living Light, is symbolic of God's presence in each follower of the religion.
The two tall steeples emulate the towers found in traditional Catholic Churches. The triangular one represents the Holy Trinity: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, The rectangular one represents the four marks of the church: one, holy, catholic, and apostolic.
